You may feel pain from your arch or heel towards the center when you first stand up after a long period of sitting. This condition is also known as heel pain with associated plantar fasciitis. This condition is most common. It is caused by the pulling of the plantar facia from the heel bone. This is a common issue for children aged 8-12. We use the terms plantar fasciitis and heel spur interchangeably to describe heel-type pain. Many structures attach to the heels bone. The main structures of the heel bone include the plantar fascia (or the plantar muscles), and the two plantar bones. The arch becomes wider as we walk, run, or cycle. This puts stress on fascia and pulls away the heel bone. This is called a bone spur. It can take years for spurs to develop. It can be caused bone, fascia, or heel nerve pain. Two options are available to treat heel pain that continues after treatment. One option is to use platelet rich Plasma (PRP) injections, the other is shockwave treatment. Surgery is not common today.
